Ranch viewed from bunker

The HSI Website is finally alive! I decided to start this blog with a photo of the ranch that hosts our test facility, as viewed from the firing bunker. It's beautiful country...

Our web presence was a long time coming, but that's to be expected when a physicist decides to learn HTML from an excellent book and build a website on his own. On the other hand, there were distractions - we built an entire explosives test facility and tested it by doing some simple detonations. (Definitely the most fun part!) We used these "bunker checkout" shots as an opportunity to do some research on the release of magnetic flux from permanent magnets as they are explosively shocked. This led to some interesting results that we'll post here later. And there was work on an SBIR contract - a study of electrical breakdown in explosively-driven Flux Compression Generators - which took priority over the HTML lessons because it pays the bills. But at last we're online, and glad to be here!
